*Compsognathus* was a small, bipedal theropod from late Jurassic Europe. This carnivore, *C. longipes*, grew to chicken-sized as a juvenile. Gut contents show it ate lizards. The first reasonably complete theropod fossil, it predates *Archaeopteryx*.
