Common dolphin
About Common dolphin
Delphinus delphis is the world's most abundant cetacean, with ~6 million globally. It is the sole member of genus Delphinus within Delphininae, related to bottlenose and striped dolphins. Formerly split into short- and long-beaked species, these are now ecotypes due to varied ancestry. Though not the archetypal dolphin, it held cultural significance in Greek and Roman art.
