Roman god of fire, volcanoes, and metalworking. Often shown with a hammer, Vulcan's Greek counterpart is Hephaestus. The Vulcanalia festival was held August 23rd. Altars to Vulcan were dedicated by Titus Tatius, an early Sabine king, showing his importance in archaic Roman religion.
