About Abzu
Abzû (Apsû) is the Sumerian name for subterranean fresh water, vital in ancient Near Eastern cosmology. Lakes, rivers, and rain were believed to originate from it. In Mesopotamian myth, Abzû is the primordial ocean below Earth, fertilized by Tiamat, birthing Ninhursag. The sun god Shamash used a tunnel within it.
