Ancient Boeotian polis near Mt. Helicon. A Boeotian League member from 520 BCE, Thespiae famously sent 700 hoplites to Thermopylae. Unlike other Boeotian cities, it remained loyal to Greece after the battle. Thespiae rivaled Thebes and survived into the Roman Empire, known for worship of Eros and the Muses.
